What Europäische covers

Because business trips abroad are no rarity for some employees of the construction company S., the company has maintained a Corporate Travel Insurance (CTI) policy with Europäische Reiseversicherung for years.

This time it is Mr. K. who is travelling to Sao Paulo, Brazil, as an employee of construction company S. During a construction site visit, he suddenly collapses and remains unconscious on the ground. At a local hospital, he is diagnosed with a cerebral haemorrhage. His life-threatening condition can be stabilised with immediate emergency measures; however, a long hospital stay is required. The construction company is forced to send another colleague to Sao Paulo to act as substitute. After a six-week stay in the hospital, Europäische Reiseversicherung, which is in constant contact with the treating physicians, receives the information that the patient's condition has improved sufficiently for him to be brought home. Europäische Reiseversicherung immediately arranges for the pick-up by ambulance jet with an accompanying physician and medic.

Thanks to the Corporate Travel Insurance policy, Europäische Reiseversicherung pays the costs for Mr. K.'s hospital stay in the amount of € 158,700, the costs for the flight by his colleague in the amount of € 4,200 and the costs of the pick-up by ambulance jet in the amount of € 73,000.
In total, Europäische Reiseversicherung covers € 235,900.
Without the Corporate Travel Insurance policy from Europäische Reiseversicherung, the company would have had to pay the entire costs.

Frequently asked questions

Can employees of branch offices and subsidiaries be included in the insurance coverage?

Yes, under certain conditions employees of branch offices and subsidiaries can also be included in the insurance contract. Please state your interest in this option when requesting an offer.

Can people employed only on the basis of a service contract be covered?

Yes, the definition of insured persons is broadly framed. Anyone who is engaging in business travel on behalf of the insurance holder and/or at the insurance holder’s expense is covered. As a result, it does not matter whether the covered persons are engaged through a service contract or in a full employment relationship.

Can tools and equipment carried by employees on trips also be covered?

Yes, with module D “Travel Luggage Insurance”, business-related and private luggage is insured up to the chosen policy amount.

Doesn’t an employee’s private insurance already cover the risk of a business trip?

It is important to note whether the insurance also applies to business trips and whether the risk of work-related manual labour is also covered. The insurance coverage for luggage should be checked to determine whether business-related luggage is also covered. In principle, companies are liable for nearly all risks encountered by employees on business trips. Employers must therefore take appropriate measures.

How are emergency cases handled?

3. Assistance is organised immediately
This is guaranteed by a professional emergency call centre with support from Austrian emergency doctors and specialists and a global assistance network.

4. Cost coverage
In emergencies, we make direct payments to the hospital or other service provider.

Is it necessary to submit the names and/or trip information and expected duration prior to departing?

No, it is not necessary to specify names, announce trips or anything of the kind. The main advantage of Corporate Travel Insurance (CTI) is the low administrative burden on your company. Every employee is automatically insured. The actual number of travel days need only be reported at the end of the insurance year.

Is manual labour included in the insurance coverage?

Yes, the insurance coverage also applies to work-related manual labour. This means that installation work, construction work and the like are also covered.

The number of travel days is higher than planned – is it necessary to report this?

No, any additional days do not have to be reported during the year. You only have to report the actual number of travel days at the end of the insurance year. An immediate notification is required only if a travelling employee exceeds the maximum travel duration per trip (90 or 180 days, depending on agreement).

Who decides on return transport of the insured?

The physicians at the emergency call centre consult with the physicians on site regarding suitability for transport and the means of conveyance. In all cases, the insured has a right to return transport after 3 days in hospital. In practice, we bring our patients back to Austria or their homeland as quickly as possible.
