What reasons for cancellation are covered, and who is authorised to cancel?

The list of all insured reasons for cancellation can be found in the information sheet. The most important reasons are:

  • unexpectedly occurring serious illness, serious health consequences resulting from an accident or death of the insured person or family members;
  • serious damage to your property at the place of residence as a result of act of God or criminal act of a third party.

The following additional travel cancellation reasons are covered by the School Children and Student-Cover:

  • failure to pass an examination at a school/university, if the repeat exam is unexpectedly held in the trip period;
  • non advancement of a pupil to the next school grade in case of class trips.

Who is authorised to cancel?
The ensured event shall apply to the insured person concerned.

When can I take out the School Children and Student-tariff?

The School Children and Student-Cover applies to School Children and Students up to 28 years of age (28th birthday before the date of the start of the trip).

Does the insurance also apply in respect of a semester or internship abroad?

School Children and Student-Cover can also be taken out for a semester or internship abroad. Please notice the maximal travel period of 11 months in total.

What countries count as Europe?

With School Children and Student-Cover you can choose between “Europe” and “worldwide” as the area of validity.

The “Europe“ area of validity includes Europe in the geographical sense, all states and islands bordering on the Mediterranean, Jordan, Madeira and the Canary Islands.
These states are, precisely: Egypt; Albania; Algeria; Andorra; Belgium; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bulgaria; Denmark including the Faroe Islands (not Greenland); Germany; Estonia; Finland; France (excluding the overseas territories); Greece; Great Britain and Northern Island including the Shetland Islands, the Orkney Islands, Gibraltar, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man; Ireland; Iceland; Israel including the Gaza strip, West Jordan and the Golan Heights; Italy; Jordan; Kosovo; Croatia; Latvia; Lebanon; Libya; Liechtenstein; Lithuania; Luxemburg; Macedonia; Malta; Morocco (not the western Sahara occupied by Morocco); Moldavia; Monaco; Montenegro; the Netherlands; Norway including Spitzbergen; Bear Island and Jan Mayen Island; Austria; Poland; Portugal including Madeira and the Azores; Romania; European Russia incl. Franz-Joseph-Land; San Marino; Sweden; Switzerland; Serbia; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain including the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla; Syria; the Czech Republic; Tunisia; Turkey; Ukraine; Hungary; the Vatican State; Byelorussia; Cyprus.

The “Worldwide” area of validity includes all countries of the earth.

When do I have to take out insurance?

Provided you have not started your trip, you can take out a Complete-Cover Standard policy. If you take out cover via the Internet site, your insurance policy will be immediately displayed and sent to you by email by way of confirmation.

Please note however that if insurance is taken out after the day on which you make your travel booking, a “waiting period” applies in respect of cancellation benefits, i.e. the cancellation cover applies only from the 10th day after the insurance has been taken out (except in the case of accident, death or act of God).
For example: if you book your summer holiday in January and take out travel insurance on 1 March, the cover in respect of cancellation does not start until 11 March.

What confirmation do I receive if I take out insurance online?

If you take out School Children and Student-Cover via our Internet site, your insurance policy will be displayed immediately by way of confirmation. You will also receive your policy by email within the following few minutes.

In your insurance policy you will find full information on the insurance you have taken out, and the link to the information sheet, so that you can call up full information on the product at any time.

My stay in hospital abroad lasts longer than the originally planned trip – how long does my insurance cover apply?

If you unexpectedly become ill during an insured trip, we reimburse the treatment costs (even if the originally planned end of your trip is already past) until such time as we can transport you back to Austria, for a maximum of 90 days following the occurrence of the insured event.
