What Europäische covers

Mr and Mrs P. book a one-week wellness holiday in beautiful Salzburger Land and take out a Hotel Cancellation Premium policy with Europäische.

Three days before they are due to leave, the colleague covering Mr P. at work falls ill and the trip has to be cancelled, because Mr P. is needed back at his desk. The cancellation costs amount to EUR 1,240 and are covered in full by Europäische Reiseversicherung.

Yes - Hotel Cancellation Premium insures the trip booked at the time of conclusion of the insurance - e.g. hotel or rental arrangement. Additionally booked benefits and travel expenses can be insured.

What confirmation do I receive if I take out insurance online?

If you take out Hotel Cancellation Premium via our Internet site, your insurance policy will be displayed immediately by way of confirmation. You will also receive your policy by email within the following few minutes.

What reasons for cancellation are covered, and who is authorised to cancel?

The list of all insured reasons for cancellation can be found in insurance terms and conditions. The most important reasons are:

  • suddenly occurring serious illness, serious health consequences resulting from an accident or death of the insured person or family members;
  • serious damage to your property at the place of residence as a result of Act of God or criminal act of a third party;
  • loss of job without fault, as a result of notice of termination issued by the employer.

With Hotel Cancellation Premium are additional reasons for cancellation covered, such as

  • unexpectedly occurring serious illness, serious physical injury caused by an accident or death of the person caring for family members who are minority age or who require care, whose permanent owner is the insured, making your presence absolutely necessary;
  • unexpectedly occurring serious illness or serious physical injury caused by an accidentof a dog, cat or horse (pets) whose permanent owner is the insured, making your presence absolutely necessary;
  • neighbourly assistance by the insured in the event of a disaster;
  • unforeseen taking up of a new employment relationship.

Who is authorised to cancel?

If an insured event occurs (e.g. a person falling sick), the following insured co-travellers can also cancel:

  • family members of the insured person affected;
  • a maximum of three additional persons per insured event.

When do I have to take out insurance?

Generally, the insurance should be taken out at the same time as the journey is booked. If the insurance is taken out on the basis of an insurance offer which has been sent with the booking confirmation, insurance taken out not later than five days after the journey is booked is deemed to have been taken out at the same time as the journey is booked.

If insurance is taken out after the day on which you make your travel booking, a “waiting period” applies in respect of cancellation benefits, i.e. the cancellation cover applies only from the 10th day after the insurance has been taken out (except in the case of accident, death or Act of God).
For example: if you book your summer holiday in January and take out travel insurance on 1 March, the cover in respect of cancellation does not start until 11 March.

If you take out cover via the Internet site, your insurance policy will be immediately displayed and sent to you by email by way of confirmation.
