There is a jungle in the middle of Europe! Yes, you read that right. The Perućica rainforest in southern Bosnia & Herzegovina is one of the last primeval forests in Europe. In addition to the 100-year-old trees, the 75-meter-high Skakavac waterfall of the Perućica stream and the Sutjeska gorge—which separates the over 2000-meter-high mountain ranges of Zelengora in the west and Maglić and Volujak in the east—are absolutely worth seeing.
However, only a few people have had the opportunity to see it so far. The rainforest is a strictly protected nature reserve and can therefore only be visited with a licensed tour guide. Due to its beauty and its valuable flora and fauna, it is especially used for science and education.
