Mandatory toll stickers (Vignette), items one needs to carry in a vehicle and speed limits in Europe

Vignette and Toll

Whether it's a vignette, toll sticker, or road toll, almost everywhere in Europe you have to pay a road fee. Therefore, it's advisable to gather information about the toll systems in each country before traveling. For example, if you're traveling to Croatia, you'll pass through Slovenia and need to apply the required vignette there. It's best to keep the receipt in the car – as proof of proper purchase in case of a check. Of course, you can also obtain the vignette before your trip.

Mandatory Items to Carry

  • First-aid kit
  • Warning triangle
  • Reflective vests for all vehicle occupants
  • Spare bulb set
  • An additional warning triangle for trailers

Take Breaks

Those who take frequent breaks arrive at their vacation destination relaxed and safe. If there are multiple drivers in the car, it's advisable to take turns. If you're spending the night in the car, be sure to park at a guarded parking lot or a campsite.

Speed Limits

The maximum speed on motorways is 130 km/h, 110 km/h on expressways, and 90 km/h on country roads. For drivers under 25 years of age, the speed limit is 10 km/h lower in each category.

Pack Luggage the Day Before

This saves you stress before departure. It's easy to forget small items like your passport, wallet, or hotel voucher.

Load the Car Properly

It's important that the driver has a clear view to the rear. Therefore, large suitcases should be placed in the center of the car and at the bottom. Make sure that important items like money and food are packed in an easily accessible spot.

Travel Documents

Even when traveling to an EU member state, you must carry a valid passport. If minors are traveling without legal guardians, it's best to attach a signed authorization to the passport – border police may request it during checks.
