Turquoise sea and beautiful sandy beach - sounds great

Turquoise sea and beautiful sandy beach – sounds like a perfect beach vacation, right? But beware: not everything that glitters is gold! There are some beaches you should definitely avoid. Here you’ll find out what dangers lurk there.

  • Ponce de Leon Inlet, Florida
No doubt: the beach at Ponce de Leon Inlet looks stunning with its iconic red lighthouse. But you should definitely stay out of the water. It's teeming with sharks.

  • Hanakapiai Beach, Hawaii
Probably the most famous beach on the island of Kauai is also quite dangerous: Visitors are warned by signs about the very strong currents. They are so powerful that dozens of people have already been pulled out into the open sea.

  • Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, USA
The Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean is a particularly beautiful island. But appearances are deceiving: the island is completely contaminated due to numerous nuclear tests conducted by the USA in the 1940s and 1950s. Even today, the beaches are radioactively polluted.

  • Cable Beach, Australia
The 22 km long sandy beach near Broome in Australia hides dangers not only in the water, which is filled with highly poisonous jellyfish. There have also been frequent crocodile attacks on the beach, some of which ended fatally.

  • Chowpatty Beach, India
This beach in Mumbai is a huge pile of garbage and therefore extremely polluted. Due to the wastewater and trash that ends up there, the beach is considered one of the most toxic in the world.
